Jupiter Trail North - OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
JUPITER TRAIL NOW OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!
We are very excited to announce that the entire Jupiter Trail is now open for public use and enjoyment! You may still see construction crews out finalizing restoration of the areas surrounding the trail, including the addition of crosswalks and touch-up seeding. This should be completed in the next few weeks.
Please enjoy the fall weather and our trail system!
September 24, 2019. Progress continues on the Jupiter Trail North project. This week's construction activities included finishing grading of the gravel base, and casting adjustments near the school. The retaining wall at the corner of West River Drive and Jupiter was completed this week (see below photo), and concrete is being poured for the ramps. The path is now nearly ready for pavement (see below photo), which is scheduled for next week! Soon to follow will be site restoration and seeding.
September 3, 2019. Construction of the north segment of the Jupiter Trail from West River Drive to Belmont Center Drive started two weeks ago yesterday! Over this last week, crews removed select trees to make room for the new path, and installed two new catch basins for stormwater control. Work has begun on the retaining walls at the White Pine Trail connection, with additional work continuing on that this week. Please see the map in the previous post for the location of the trail extension.
August 19, 2019. Plainfield Charter Township is excited to announce that the construction of the north segment of the Jupiter Trail will begin this week. This segment will be an 8-foot wide asphalt trail running parallel to the east side of Jupiter Avenue from West River Drive to the White Pine Trail, and along the west side of Jupiter Avenue from the White Pine Trail to Belmont Center Drive, directly south of the YMCA’s sidewalk system. The trail will be separated from the travel lanes but completely within the Jupiter Avenue right-of-way.
When this trail segment is finished, the Jupiter Trail will extend from Plainfield Avenue to the YMCA with a connection to the White Pine Trail network.
While work is being done for the trail, there will be shoulder closures and some intermittent lane closures. At no time will the road be completely closed. We anticipate the trail construction to be completed in about 6 weeks (early October).
