Burn Permits Now Available

Brush burning - burn permits (website)

Township residents can now obtain a burn permit online or by phone through the Plainfield Township Fire Department.

Residents must have an open burn permit through the Fire Department to burn yard waste such as clippings, leaves, shrubbery, brush, tree branches and tree trimmings.

Recreational fires do not require a burn permit but should always follow these rules:

  • Fires must be contained within an approved fire pit, ring or outdoor fireplace.
  • No burning of yard debris, trash, construction or demolition waste.
  • Combustible materials must be at least 5 feet from the fire pit.
  • The fire pit must be at least 10 feet from any structure, such as a house, shed or deck.
Burn permits will be valid through June 30, 2022. To apply for a permit and review the Township's outdoor burning ordinance, click here. To obtain a permit by phone, call 616.361.2895.
