Trustees Consider Placing Community Center Proposal on November Ballot
The Plainfield Township Board of Trustees on July 26 will consider asking voters to approve financing a new Community Center.
Details on the millage proposal, which would be placed on the November ballot, and the conceptual design of the Community Center proposed for the campus of the Belmont YMCA, will be presented during the Board’s July 26 meeting.
The ballot proposal would ask voters to approve the Township financing the construction of the Community Center. The YMCA would be responsible for the costs of staffing and operating the building.
The multiuse facility will feature a walking track, banquet area, flexible meeting spaces for a variety of classes, a demonstration kitchen, areas for Senior Citizens programming, fitness classrooms and a gymnasium.
Trustees earlier this month agreed to move forward with the project’s conceptual design plans following an update from staff on the facility’s draft floor plan. The updated floor plan considers the new site location and reflects the work by the Township’s Community Center Advisory Committee, which identified the initial design for the facility to meet the community’s needs.
In 2020, the Board paused the project proposed to be located on the campus of Northview High School due the COVID-19 outbreak. This spring, Trustees expressed interest in pursuing a new site that was more centrally located in the Township.
