Work Continues on Utility Projects
Work continues on four utility projects in Plainfield and Algoma townships as part of the Wolverine Worldwide PFAS settlement to extend municipal water this year to approximately 250 homes affected by PFAS contamination in the groundwater.
Separate from the water main extension work, the pressure conversion project north of Five Mile Road in Plainfield is expected to be completed in September. Crews will add water main to increase water pressure for some homes in the Rock Hills area.
Here are the latest updates on each project:
Herrington Avenue South of Chandler Drive
Water mains have been installed on Herrington Avenue, Sprucewood Drive and Sprucewood Court, Frond Avenue, Pine Hill Drive and Belmont Avenue. Next, crews will install water mains on Korben Woods Court and Terrie Lynn and Meek drives.
Pressure and disinfection tests for the new water mains on Frond Street, Belmont Avenue and Pine Hill Drive have been completed to ensure proper installation, cleaning and sanitization. Plainfield Township next will communicate with residents to start the process of installing water services on their property.
All work, including road, driveway and lawn restoration is expected to be completed by mid-October.
Wolven Avenue and 11 Mile Road
Water service contractors are continuing to connect homes to the Township’s municipal water system. Road and lawn restoration is complete, and crews have begun removing equipment and materials from the project site. Work is expected to be completed this month.
Belmont Avenue and Van Dam Drive
Water main installation is complete on Belmont Avenue and continuing along Van Dam Drive.
Crews will pressure test and disinfect the newly installed water main. Once completed, water service connections will begin. The Township will communicate with homeowners to start the process of installing water services on private property.
This project is expected to continue through early fall and be completed by October.
Crews began installing new water mains on Packer Drive and will continue north to Van Dam Drive and several neighboring streets.
Sections of the newly installed water mains will be tested, disinfected and connected to homes through October. Water main and water service along the side streets and private roads off Packer Drive will be installed next spring.
5 Mile Area
Water mains are installed and disinfected and final water main connections are being completed. The final step will be to schedule a time for the water department to operate specific valves in order to increase water pressure in the area north of 5 Mile Road. Crews will continue to work on road and lawn restoration, with work expected to be completed next month.
