Board Approves Utility Projects for Northville and Packer Drives

utility project

As part of the settlement with Wolverine Worldwide, the Plainfield Township Board of Trustees awarded a contract to Dean’s Landscaping and Excavating of Sand Lake for the Packer Drive area in Plainfield Township.

Separate from the settlement, the Board awarded a contract to Kamminga and Roodvoets, Inc. of Grand Rapids for water and wastewater system improvements on Northville Drive.

Dean’s Landscaping and Excavating’s bid of $3 million was selected during the board’s April 26 meeting. The project will connect approximately 60 homes currently impacted by PFAS in their well water to Plainfield’s municipal water system. Construction is expected to begin in August and continue into 2022.

Once the company submits a detailed construction schedule, a letter will be mailed to residents and businesses who will be impacted by the work. The letter will provide the anticipated construction schedule and detailed instructions for the work on each private property to make the final connections.

This is the fourth and final water main extension project under the settlement planned for 2021.

Kamminga and Roodvoets’ bid of $3.2 million was also selected during the board’s April 26 meeting. This project will replace old utilities, including water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer mains. The road will be reconstructed and sidewalks will be replaced as needed. Work will be completed during the 2022 construction season.
